The Evolution of the Twitter Logo
I don’t have many pet peeves, but one that I do have is when brands use the wrong the Twitter logo. The wrong twitter logo you ask? I didn’t know there were more then one. Well, there is!
The Twitter logo has evolved 3 times since the social network’s inception.
Twitter logo 1
Twitter was born in 2006 and this was the first logo. This logo lasted until 2010.
Logo 2
The Twitter bird didn’t make it’s debut until the second version of their logo. This Twitter logo was around from 2010-2012.
Logo 3 (Current)
This is the 3rd and most current version of the Twitter logo. 2012 – Current.
The current logo was introduced on June 6, 2012 via the Twitter blog. Below is an excerpt from that article.
“Starting today you’ll begin to notice a simplified Twitter bird. From now on, this bird will be the universally recognizable symbol of Twitter. (Twitter is the bird, the bird is Twitter.) There’s no longer a need for text, bubbled typefaces, or a lowercase “t” to represent Twitter.
Our new bird grows out of love for ornithology, design within creative constraints, and simple geometry. This bird is crafted purely from three sets of overlapping circles — similar to how your networks, interests and ideas connect and intersect with peers and friends. Whether soaring high above the earth to take in a broad view, or flocking with other birds to achieve a common purpose, a bird in flight is the ultimate representation of freedom, hope and limitless possibility.”
Twitter also provides brand guidelines on their website for those interested. If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll see me tweet at brands who don’t use the correct Twitter Logo. It’s silly I know.
